Privacy Policy
Effective 22 October 2026
In short: we collect only what's needed to design your Mac's look and keep your account working. Your files never leave your Mac, we don't sell your data, and there are no ads or tracking.
This policy explains how DesignMyMac ("DesignMyMac", "we", "us") handles information when you use the DesignMyMac app for macOS, the Studio at designmymac.com/studio, and the website designmymac.com (together, the "Service").
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile picture as Google shares them. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see your Google password.
- What you ask the AI for. The descriptions you type, any reference images or website links you add, and the designs, options and images the Service creates for you.
- Your saved looks. Themes, widgets and settings you save to your account, so they're available on your other Macs.
- Usage needed to run the Service. Request counts for daily limits, error and security logs, and basic technical data such as IP address and request time, kept by our hosting providers.
What stays on your Mac
To restyle your Mac, the app reads and changes things locally: folder and app icons, your wallpaper, the Dock, and the folders you allow it to access. It saves backups of your originals on your Mac so you can restore them. Your files, folder contents, and these backups are not uploaded to us.
Widgets you add may read information on your Mac — your calendar events, reminders, the song that's playing, battery and system status. This is shown on your desktop and is not sent to us. Some widgets fetch public data directly from the service you choose, from your Mac: weather (Open-Meteo, using the city you enter), news feeds you add, cryptocurrency prices (CoinGecko) and GitHub contribution activity for the username you enter.
macOS asks your permission before the app can access Desktop, Documents and Downloads, Appearance (through System Events), Accessibility, Calendars or Reminders. You can change these at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
How we use information
- To create the designs, options, wallpapers, icons and widgets you ask for.
- To keep you signed in and sync your saved looks.
- To enforce fair-use limits, prevent abuse, fix problems and keep the Service secure.
- To contact you about your account or important changes to the Service.
We do not sell your personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
AI and service providers
We use trusted providers to run the Service. They process information only to provide their services to us:
- Anthropic (Claude) — designs, options and web research based on your request.
- Google — image generation (Gemini), sign-in (Firebase Authentication), and hosting of our servers, database and image storage (Google Cloud, Mumbai region).
- Vercel — hosting of the website and web Studio.
When you include a website link, the Service may visit that page to read its colours and style. When you ask for a look inspired by a topic, the AI may search the public web.
Cookies and tracking
We don't use advertising or analytics cookies. The website and Studio store only what's needed to keep you signed in and remember your preferences, in your browser's local storage.
How long we keep information
We keep your account, saved looks and the images created for you while your account is active. Request logs are kept for a limited time for security and troubleshooting. When you delete your account, we delete your account data and stored images within 30 days, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to access, correct, download or delete your information, or withdraw consent, by emailing us. Depending on where you live — including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the EU/UK GDPR — you may have further rights, including to complain to your data protection authority. We'll respond within 30 days.
To undo changes on your Mac, use Restore in the app. To remove local data, delete the app and its folder in ~/Library/Application Support.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest with our providers, access is limited to what's needed to run the Service, and changes to your Mac only happen after you approve them. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
The Service isn't intended for children. You must be 18 or older, or have permission from a parent or guardian, to use it. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
International transfers
Our servers are in India, and our providers may process information in other countries. We rely on their contractual and legal safeguards when information moves across borders.
Changes to this policy
We'll post any changes here and update the effective date. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email.
